Second Annual World Ice Racing Championships at Sukee Arena in Winslow, Maine on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 4:00 p.m

Winslow, Maine- March 15, 2010 – The Central Maine Cycling Club (CMCC), in cooperation with the Central Maine Chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (CeMeNEMBA) is pleased to announce the Second Annual World Ice Racing Championships at Sukee Arena in Winslow, Maine on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.  A practice session is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. prior to the start of the race.  There is no admission to attend but donations to CeMeNEMBA will be greatly appreciated and encouraged.

Ice racing at Sukee began last year with a handful of eager bicyclists who saw the smooth, glassy surface of Sukee Ice Arena as a great match for studded, knobby bike tires.  After lots of practice sessions and a couple of minor tumbles, last year’s race was huge fun.

This year, there will be three separate classes- Novice, Amateur and Expert and the cost for a rider to race is $5.00.  During the practice session, “anyone is welcome to try riding the ice,” according to Dave Richard, President of CMCC.  “There will be extra bikes kicking around” says Simone, “and (Sukee) is a great place to watch a bike race”.

CeMeNEMBA is headquartered in Augusta and is currently working on trails in the Bond Brook area in Augusta, the Hallowell Recreation area in Hallowell, and in Waterville, the Quarry Road and Pine Ridge trails.  The CeMeNEMBA tent will be set up at the race and members will be around to answer any questions about the club.
